George W. Bush sat down with Matt Lauer for an in-depth interview about his new memoir Decision Points. The former commander-in-chief mentioned to the Today Show host that his most disgusting moment in office was a disparaging comment made by rapper Kanye West during the NBC Hurricane Katrina Telethon, insinuating that Bush was racist.

BUSH-LAUER INTERVIEW

The rapper was interviewed this morning by a Houston radio station. He was questioned about the controversial comments that he made five years ago and was asked to respond to the Bush allegation that it was actually Kanye who made the racist remark.

West said: “I definitely can understand the way he feels, to be accused of being a racist in any way, because the same thing happened to me”, clearly referring to the VMA run-in with Taylor Swift.

With him, it was a lack of compassion with him not rushing, him not taking the time to rush down to New Orleans. With me, it was a lack of compassion of cutting someone off in their moment.”

“But nonetheless, I think we’re all quick to pull a race card in America, and now I’m more open, due to the poetic justice that I feel — to have gone through the same thing that he went through. Now I feel more connected with him on a humanitarian level.”
