Kanye West has been keeping a low profile for a while now, but true to form, he’s back with a vengeance. While performing at the Big Chill Festival in Herefordshire England, the rapper ranted about how people look at him.
“I walk through the hotel and I walk down the street, and people look at me like I’m f**king insane, like I’m Hitler. One day the light will shine through and one day people will understand everything I ever did.”
Outrageous remarks are nothing new for the outspoken entertainer, who claimed during a nationally televised Katrina telethon that George Bush hated black people and was racist. The remark turned out to the the lowest moment of W’s presidency.
Mark Rothman Executive Director of the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust spoke out on West’s latest rant, “He certainly misunderstands the supreme unattractiveness of his ‘poor me’ self-pitying martyrdom act. He misunderstands the vast gulf between his actions, no matter how wrong they may be or how wrong people may think they are, and those of the single biggest mass murderer in history.”
He continued, “And he misunderstands the great responsibility he holds in his hands, when he speaks into his microphone.”
West’s UK performance clearly won’t be remembered as one of his best. He hit the stage 30 minutes late while complaining about his voice, and spouted off a profanity-laden rant, comparing his music skills to the athleticism of Michael Jordan and identifying closely with Adolph Hitler, leader of the Nazi Party.
One heartfelt moment came near the end of Kanye’s performance when he paid tribute to Amy Winehouse and several other deceased celebrities. Presumably speaking to a higher power and then his detractors, he remarked, “Thank you for protecting your artists that are still here, this is for Alexander McQueen, for Amy, for Michael Jackson. To all of the media – can you lighten up on the artists that are still here?”
