Former NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield was arrested for drug possession at his home in Catawba County, North Carolina Tuesday night.
Mayfield, 42, who was suspended from NASCAR in 2009 after testing positive for methamphetamine, was charged with possessing 1.5 grams of the drug and may face further charges after stolen items were found in his home.
Approximately $100,000 worth of stolen merchandise, including welding equipment and truck parts were found in Mayfield’s home.
Mayfield’s attorney denies all charges, saying, “Mr. Mayfield has no knowledge of either stolen property or methamphetamine being present on his property and denies the accusation that he was in possession of methamphetamine or any other illegal drug and he denies any suggestion that he knowingly received or possessed stolen property.”
Mayfield posted $3,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in district court on Wednesday.
