Jay Shafer designs and builds very small houses through his architecture and construction business Tumbleweed Tiny House Company. The miniature homes are between 50 and 750 square feet, significantly reducing their customers environmental footprint.
The builder is a social activist with a philosophy of reduced materialism and consumerism through low-impact community living. He offers affordable and ecological sustainable alternatives via simpler and smaller residences.
The first little structure was built in 1997. Customers can buy design plans or they can order a tiny home to be built and shipped by truck.
