A stuntman on Fear Factor broke both of his ankles after a safety mechanism failed during a six-story jump.

He is lucky to be alive thanks to a piece of back-up equipment that allowed him to hit the ground feet first. Medical personnel, already on the scene, administered treatment and transported the injured man to an area hospital.

The accident happened while a new stunt was being perfected for an upcoming episode of the popular television show. A FF producer for the show said, “Safety is our first priority, and because of that we test these stunts repeatedly with trained stuntmen to ensure our contestants’ well-being.”

Earlier this month TMZ reported another accident occurred on the FF set when a truck that a female contestant was standing on crashed into a stunt car. Her injuries were minor.

NBC ordered eight new episodes of Fear Factor that will begin airing in September, two of them will be two-hour shows. Joe Rogan will be back as host.
