Dan Fogelberg, singer and songwriter, lost his battle with prostate cancer on December 16, 2007. The singer’s breakout album was Souvenirs with it’s hit song Part of the Plan which catapulted him to stardom.
Fogelberg released a string of gold and platinum albums in the late 70’s and early 80’s, including Captured Angels, Nether Lands which featured such songs as The Power of Gold, Lonely in Love and The Language of Love. He released 22 solo albums over the length of his career and two joint venture albums with Tim Weisberg.
Fogelberg also got into bluegrass in 1985, recording an album in Nashville. The singer often used his music to address social issues including peace and Native American themes. He performed in several No Nukes concerts, expressing concern for the environment and alternatives to nuclear power.
Fogelberg’s live concerts won acclaim over the years. He was most proud of a concert that he performed at New York’s Carnegie Hall, with his parents in the audience. In 2002 he was inducted into The Performers Hall of Fame, located in Morrison, Colorado.
The musician fell ill in 2004 and underwent cancer treatment. He had lived at his 610 acre ranch in Colorado since 1982. He is survived by his wife, musician Jean Fogelberg.
