Just one month after taping his final segment for 60 Minutes, television icon Andy Rooney died Friday night in New York at age 92.

If he could speak from the grave, we’re guessing the loveable and sometimes cantankerous curmudgeon would have offered up some advice to those following in his footsteps, ‘Never retire.’

Rooney checked into a hospital to undergo minor surgery in mid-October and remained hospitalized with complications until his death.

CBS chairman Jeff Fager said, “It’s a sad day for 60 Minutes and for everyone here at CBS News. It’s hard to imagine not having Andy around. He loved his life and he lived it on his own terms. We will miss him very much.”

He sat down with Morley Safer for a candid exit interview in late September. That piece was aired by 60 Minutes in conjunction for his final good-bye episode.
