Andy Gabrielson 1987-2012 RIP …

Well known storm chaser Andy Gabrielson was killed by a drunk driver in a head-on car crash on Saturday near Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was 24.

Gabrielson was traveling on I-44 on his way back from a two-day storm chase in Texas when an incapacitated driver caused a four vehicle crash that killed the weather buff.

Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. George Brown said, “A wrong-way driver of a white pickup truck traveling westbound struck Gabrielson’s black Chevrolet Tahoe head-on in the eastbound traffic lane. Another person was killed in the collision. Alcohol is suspected as a cause of the crash.”

He was featured on NBC’s Dateline and won a Regional Emmy in 2011 for video of a tornado he shot in Minnesota. He began chasing storms at the age of 16, logging 220,000 miles during his pursuit of 150 twisters.

Andy was employed by Severe Studios. He is survived by his parents Greg and Joanne Gabrielson and a three-year-old daughter. A funeral service is scheduled in Luverne, Minnesota on Saturday, Feb. 11.
