Amy Winehouse 1983-2011 RIP

Amy Winehouse was found dead in her London apartment Saturday afternoon at 3:54 p.m.

“Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05hrs today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased,” said a press release from the Metropolitan Police.

“On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene,” continued the statement.

“Inquiries continue into the circumstances of the death. At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained.”

According to the Daily Mail, the singer’s father, Mitch Winehouse, was on a plane flying to New York, planning to attend a Jazz festival.

Amy has battled alcohol and drugs throughout her career. During her stormy marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil, she was introduced to crack cocaine and heroin, he admitted while doing jail time. They divorced in August 2009.

Crowds gathered as attendants brought the maroon body bag shrouding the remains of Amy Winehouse out of her London flat and put it in a private ambulance for a trip to the coroner’s office for an autopsy – death photos here.
