The Top 8 American Idol contestants performed songs from the 1980s last night under the mentorship of Gwen Stefani and Tony Kanal.

DeAndre Brackensick kicked things off and turned out to be one of the judges favorites of the evening with I Like It and I’m So Excited.

Other performances that received high praise from Tyler, Lopez and Jackson included Joshua Ledet, Jessica Sanchez and Skylar Laine. The country songstress reminds us of a young Reba McEntire.

Colton Dixon and Phillip Phillips didn’t wow the judges but didn’t pick up any harsh criticism for their so-so showing last night.

The same can’t be said for Elise Testone who was called out for a bad song choice and Hollie Cavanagh for her pitchy performance. We’ll hazard a guess that one of these two performers will be eliminated during Thursday night’s show.

Randy suggested that the finale could be a showdown between Joshua and Jessica who scored the performance of the night with their duet I Knew You Were Waiting.

Check out the duet by Jessica and Joshua and a video recap of the performances below:
