In case you missed the 2014 Video Music Awards on Sunday night, Miley Cyrus used a unique tactic to steal center stage again.

No, she don’t find another middle-aged married man to twerk on. Instead she brought a homeless man named Jesse Helt as her date.

Jesse accepted Miley’s Video of the Year award and gave a stirring speech about the plight of impoverished youths in America.

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Then we found out it was all BS:

For one thing Jesse Helt is not homeless. He’s a 22-year-old struggling male model whose mother says she’s offered to allow him to move back in with her on several occasions.

After that bombshell, we found out that there are several warrants out for Helt’s arrest. And no, he wasn’t driven to a life of crime by poverty.

Helt burglarized a home while still living with his family, and then skipped out on his probation and community service.

Both Cyrus and Helt have claimed that Jesse was brought on stage to represent the “homeless youth” of America. It was a noble cause, but Miley botched the execution horribly.

There are over a million homeless, hungry and frightened teens in America that Miley could have chosen to help her raise awareness. Instead, she picked up a 22-year-old Zoolander wannabe with a mile-long rap sheet because she thought he was cute.

We can’t believe we’re saying this, but we’d rather see another twerk fest:
