The results of an autopsy performed on Philip Seymour Hoffman were inconclusive. According to New York City’s medical examiner, determining the official cause of death will require additional testing.

“Our examination has been concluded but the results are inconclusive,” spokeswoman Julie Bolcer told the Los Angeles Times. “We are awaiting results and additional studies.”

Bolcer said there was no time frame available for when the tests would be completed.

Hoffman, 46, was found dead Sunday in his NYC West Village apartment of an apparent heroin overdose.

The actor, who had struggled with drugs in the past, suffered from a relapse after 23 years of sobriety. He spent time in a rehab facility in May 2013, citing the need to detox after using heroin.
