Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon Cooper on the hit CBS television series “The Big Bang Theory” quietly came out in an interview with the New York Times.

Parsons, 39, is currently appearing in the Broadway comedy “Harvey.” Although the actor doesn’t address his sexuality directly, the Times article states, “Mr. Parsons is gay and in a 10-year relationship.”

Parsons spent last summer portraying young gay activist Larry Kramer in “The Normal Heart” on Broadway. He is slated to reprise the role in an upcoming film adaptation of the play.

Parsons, who has won two Emmys and a Golden Globe Award for his Big Bang Theory role, frequently thanks Todd Spiewak — his reported partner, during awards acceptance speeches.
