ABC has given the nod to an afternoon extension of the popular show Good Morning America.
A one-hour pilot version of the morning program, titled Good Afternoon America, has been given the greenlight by the network for a nine-week trial featuring co-anchors Lara Spencer and Josh Elliott.
GAA will tape in the GMA studio in Manhattan right after the morning show wraps at 9:00 a.m. for airing later in the day. The premiere of the pop culture-themed program is set for July 9, at 2:00 p.m. eastern. The pilot will take the place of struggling soap opera replacement The Revolution.
Katie Couric will bring her new talk show to ABC on Sept. 10, at 3:00 p.m. eastern. The original plan was to shuffle General Hospital to the 2:00 p.m. slot. That move is now subject to change if GAA finds favor with afternoon viewers.
