Robin Gibb, a founding member of the Bee Gees, has died at the age of 62 after battling colon and liver cancer.
Family spokesman Doug Wright issued this statement: “Sunday 20 May, 2012 at 10:46: The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announce with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer. The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time.”
In early February Gibb did a BBC radio interview to talk about his “spectacular recovery” from cancer. By late March he had a serious setback that require intestinal surgery. Doctors discovered advanced colorectal cancer.
Gibb developed pneumonia in mid-April and lapsed into a coma. He remained hospitalized until his death.
Gibb is survived by his wife Dwina Murphy Gibb, four children, brother Barry Gibb, and his mother, 91-year-old Barbara Gibb. He is proceeded in death by his twin brother Maurice Gibb.
