GMA hosts Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos were giddy with delight after beating TODAY in the morning show ratings last week.

ABC celebrated their triumph over Matt Lauer and company with a champagne victory party.

TODAY has held the top rung without interruption for an amazing 16 years but the tide has suddenly turned.

According to the Nielsen numbers, GMA edged out their closest competition, NBC, by an average of 31,000 viewers last week.

Posted on the Good Morning America Facebook page was a photo with the show talent smiling broadly and flashing a single finger to represent their #1 status.

The image was tagged, “It’s official. GMA was America’s most-watched show last week, all thanks to you, our viewers. Thank you for sharing your mornings with us every day.”

Lauer announced in early April that he’ll remain with TODAY after signing a new multi-year contract that will pay him $25 million a year.
