Gary Sinise of CSI: New York fame was injured in a car crash last Friday and was forced to cancel several planned concerts with his Lt. Dan Band and additional public appearances.

His foundation website indicated that the 57-year-old was a passenger in a vehicle mishap nearly a week ago that resulted in his hospitalization for unspecified injuries.

The actor was forced to cancel several events in Virginia, including a fundraising concert and his official duties as grand marshal at Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Martinsville Speedway.

A third appearance at Washington D.C.’s Navy Memorial on Monday was slated to name him an honorary chief petty officer. The audience was told that he was still in the hospital but “doing well.”

Filming of his hit CBS crime-drama series is complete for season eight with the finale set to air on May 11, 2012. It is expected that the popular police procedural show will get the green light for 18 new episodes.

The Lt. Dan Band, established in 2004, is named after the character that Sinise portrayed in the film Forrest Gump. The group has grown from the occasional jam session to performing for charities and non-profit organizations including the USO and Operation Iraqi Children. They frequently visit military bases in the U.S. and abroad.
