Whitney Houston died on Saturday afternoon according to the singer’s representative Kristin Foster. The famous musician was 48.
Her body was discovered at the Beverly Hilton Hotel by a member of her entourage, who phoned security to report that Houston was unresponsive.
Paramedics were summoned but were unable to revive the singer. She was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. pacific time.
A police crime lab vehicle remains at the scene and an investigation is underway. No cause of death has been revealed.
Whitney struggled with drug and alcohol addiction for many years and spent several stints in rehab.
The star was recently reported to be on Simon Cowell’s short list to become a replacement judge on X Factor.
Houston won two Emmy Awards, six Grammy Awards, 33 Billboard Music Awards, 22 American Music Awards and sold over 170 million albums and singles worldwide during her career that spanned 1977-2012.
She is survived by one child, a daughter Bobbie Kristina Brown. She was born in 1993 during Houston’s marriage to Bobby Brown.
