Paul McCartney was honored last night in Los Angeles at the star-studded MusiCares 2012 event, hosted by Grammy organizers as a kickoff to Sunday night’s major award show.
The event, hosted by actor-comedian Eddie Izzard, honored McCartney for his creative accomplishments over decades and his charitable work.
Dare we suggest that 69 never looked so good? The former Beatle and his wife, Nancy Shevell, were serenaded by musicians performing his tunes. Katy Perry sang Hey Jude, Neil Young rocked I Saw Her Standing There, Cold Play had their way with We Can Work it Out and Alicia Keyes did a soulful rendition of Blackbird.
McCartney remarked, “For me, obviously it’s great to hear these fantastic artists singing my songs.”
Among those hitting the red carpet were Tom Hanks, Glen Campbell, Giuliana and Bill Rancic, Hugh Hefner and his girlfriends Anna Berglund and Shera Bechard, Paul’s son James McCartney, Idol judge Randy Jackson, and John Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono.
Other attendees included Tony Bennett, Smokey Robinson, Neil Young and Rosanna Arquette.
