Discovery Channel’s popular science entertainment series MythBusters suffered an epic fail when an experiment backfired. The team launched a cannonball that ended up smashing into two homes and a minivan.
The scene was staged at a police firing range in Dublin, 35 mines east of San Francisco. Overseeing the scientific experiment were several of the series regulars: Tory Belleci, Kari Byron and Grant Imahara.
J.D. Nelson of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department spoke about the incident, “This cannonball was supposed to go through several barrels of water and through a cinder block, and then ultimately into the side of the hill.”
The rogue cannonball made its way into a nearby neighborhood traveling through the front door of a home, ricocheting up the stairs to the second floor, exiting through a wall and traveled across the street into a second home. It crashed through that roof and then back outside, where it came to a stop after crashing through the window of a parked van.
Minivan owner Jasper Gill had just exited the vehicle prior to the accident. He said, “It hit the dash, through the passenger window. I’m lucky I’m alive.”
The Discovery Channel claims “all of the proper safety protocols were observed.” They’ve already contacted property owners to settle up for damages incurred. The incident remains under investigation.
