The Avengers star Scarlett Johansson told Cosmopolitan magazine that marrying actor Ryan Reynolds was “the best thing I ever did.”
In the January 2012 issue of Cosmo Scarlett said, “I’m a big believer that when something feels right, you should do it. I’m a big believer in instinct. Getting married was the right thing to do because it was natural. It grew out of a romance and love and a desire to have a future with somebody, and I was very fortunate that I married somebody who turned out to be the person I thought he would be.”
Admitting that she does miss having a partner and a confidant, “Relationships are complicated. Being married is a living, breathing process. I think I was not fully aware of the peaks and the valleys. I wasn’t prepared to hunker down and do the work… Both of us were extremely busy. We spent so much time apart. It’s very difficult.”
The actress started dating Reynolds in 2007. They got engaged in May 5, 2008 and exchanged wedding vows quietly on Sept. 27, 2008 near Tofino, British Columbia.
The union lasted little more than two years, with Ryan citing irreconcilable differences in a divorce filing on Dec. 23, 2010. Johansson filed her own papers simultaneously and the divorce was finalized on July 1, 2011, with all of the marital assets split evenly.
After the breakup Johansson was linked to actor Sean Penn. They dated for five months before ending their relationship in June. Reynold is currently involved with actress Blake Lively.
