Madonna will perform at the XLVI Super Bowl halftime show on February 5th, 2012. The news was revealed in a new commercial aired by NBC.

SB Nation reported back in October that the mega show’s halftime producers were looking for an edgy performer and were seriously courting Madonna. Turns out they knew what they were talking about.

The halftime entertainers have been keeping it fairly clean since the 2004 Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake fiasco. Janet flashed her breast and claimed it was simply a wardrobe malfunction. The FCC wasn’t buying it and fined CBS $550,000 for what has since been known as Nipplegate.

Madonna has a new album dropping a few days prior to the big event–perfect timing to showcase her new music. She follows on the heels of the Black Eyed Peas, who performed at halftime during the Packers vs Steelers contest that was seen by 150 million viewers.

The veteran songstress and her longtime creative director James King, who orchestrated the critically acclaimed Cirque du Soleil Michael Jackson Immortal tour, Rihanna’s Loud tour and Britney’s Femme Fatale tour, will utilize multimedia artists from Moment Factory to create a one of a kind performance.

Also rumored to be performing with Madge are Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.. The three collaborated on a track from the new album called Give Me All Your Love.
