Prince William was part of the search and rescue helicopter crew that saved two Russian seamen early this morning.
The Duke of Cambridge is a helicopter co-pilot stationed at RAF Valley in North Wales. The team responded to a mayday call that came in around 2:00 a.m. stating that eight men were on board a ship that was sinking in gale-force winds due to a cracked hull.
The cargo ship was located just off the coast of North Wales. The search and rescue crew were only able to save two of the men. Five crew member are still missing and one body has been recovered.
The rescued men were airlifted to RAF Valley, on the Welsh island of Anglesey. Prince William was co-piloting the helicopter that flew the two men to safety, according to a British Defense Ministry spokesman.
British Coast Guard spokesman Jim Green said, “We are very concerned for the safety of the other crew members. We know that at least some of the missing were wearing immersion suits and have strobe lighting with them. However, sea conditions are challenging at best.”
