Lionsgate has finally released the first full “Hunger Games” trailer.
The movie adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ post-apocalyptic tale is being touted as the next Twilight or Harry Potter.
Collins’ futuristic trilogy plunges impoverished teenagers into a brutal fight to the death in the Hunger Games, a twisted punishment for a past uprising against the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem — the ruins of what was once North America.
Every year one teenage boy and girl between the ages 12 and 17 from each of Panem’s twelve districts are forced to fight to the death until only one survivor remains.
The movie focuses on the character Katniss, played by Oscar-nominated actress Jennifer Lawrence, and her fellow competitor Peeta, played by Josh Hutcherson, who both hail from District 12.
The Hunger Games, directed by Gary Ross, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik, hits theaters March 23, 2012.
