Saturday Night Live has had its share of cast members with addiction issues. Darrell Hammond, best known for his impressions of Bill Clinton, Dick Cheney and Al Gore, has finished writing his memoir depicting a drug fueled life.

Hammond’s memoir, God, If You’re Not Up There, I’m F**ked hit stores on November 8th. The book, according to a New York Post review, is filled with details of his self destruction caused by addiction.

Crack, cocaine, drinking and cutting were a way of life for the funnyman. He admits, “I kept a pint of Remy in my desk at work. The drinking calmed my nerves and quieted the disturbing images that sprang into my head … when drinking didn’t work, I cut myself.”

His troubles spanned more than a decade. In 1998 police took Darrell from NBC Studios to a New York City hospital in a straitjacket. When describing the situation he said, “My wife came but I didn’t recognize her.”

In 2002 he began binging on large amounts of cocaine. A 2009 rehab stay didn’t keep him sober for long. He recalls that his relapse brought him to the worst place, “I had the brilliant idea I should try crack.” He actually lived in a Harlem crack house as he was crashing toward rock bottom.

Sounds compelling. Will you buy Darrell’s book?
