Dan Wheldon and his wife Susie spent their last evening together at Huntington Ink in the Palms Casino Resort, getting their initials inked on each others wrist according to a report by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Norm Clarke, who writes a column under the banner NORM! Vegas Confidential, got a tip that the British racer and his wife had D.W. and S.W. inked on their wrists at about 10 p.m. on Saturday night.

George Maloof, the resort owner, bumped into the couple as he was exiting the N9NE Steakhouse with another IndyCar driver Marco Andretti. Maloof said, “He was just a fun, fun guy. A great guy.”

Columnist Clarke attempted to get details from the tattoo parlor about the tattoo session but a female employee declined comment, other than to say, “Sorry, I can’t give out that information.”

Wheldon suffered fatal injuries when his No. 77 car got airborne after hitting wheel-on-wheel with Canadian Paul Tracy. The car smashed into the fence above the wall that surrounds the 1.5-mile Vegas oval. After careening along the fence and then falling back onto the asphalt upside down, Wheldon’s car slid for several seconds before stopping.
