It was Movie Scores Week on Dancing with the Stars and the nine celebrity contestants and their pro partners hit the floor to perform a Tango, Paso Doble, Foxtrot or Viennese Waltz.
A record number of viewers were expected to tune in because Cher was in the audience, as was Rep. Mary Bono Mack, who was married to Sonny Bono when he died in a 1998 ski accident. Also on hand were his brother Elijah Blue Allman and his aunt Georganne LaPiere.
Ricki Lake & Derek – Tango to Psycho: Len said, “You’re like the U.S. Mail, you always deliver.” Bruno called it a “blockbuster performance.” Carrie Ann proclaimed, “Brilliant in the ballroom.” Scores 10, 9, 10 = 29.
J.R. Martinez & Karina – Foxtrot to The Pink Panther: Carrie Ann wasn’t impressed, “I thought it was ok.” Len said, “This was the best male dancer of the night.” Scores 8, 9, 9 = 26.
Chynna Phillips & Tony – Tango to Mission Impossible: She blanked out when the smoke began rising under her feet, and was thrown by the unfamiliar sound of the full orchestra. The judges awarded her 7,7,7 = 21.
Hope Solo & Maks – Foxtrot to You’ve Got A Friend: Carrie Ann said, “You made me smile the whole way through.” Len challenged her to put more time into rehearsals. Scores 8, 8, 8 = 24.
Rob Kardashian & Cheryl – Paso Doble to Superman: Bruno said, “You’ve got to believe in yourself and be more assertive.” Scores 8,8,8 = 24.
Nancy Grace & Tristan – Paso Doble to Flash Gordon Theme: Bruno said, “Nancy, you’ve got to become a ball breaker out there.” Scores 7,7,7 = 21.
Carson Kressley & Anna – Viennese Waltz to Curse of the Black Pearl: Len Goodman didn’t like the technique but acknowledged, “If I was at home I’d be phoning for you.” Scores 7, 6, 7 = 20.
David Arquette & Kym – Paso Doble to The Raiders March: The audience gave the performance a standing ovation. Len Goodman was the only naysayer, calling it “the Temple of Doom.” Scores 8,7,8 = 23.
Chaz Bono & Lacey – Paso Doble to Rocky: Bruno said, “You keep coming back, you keep fighting.” Carrie Ann cried. Cher stood up and clapped for her son, with tears in her eyes. Len called it his best dance to date. Scores 7, 7, 7 = 21.
Who will go home Tuesday night at the end of the elimination show? At this point it is still very much a popularity contest. If we had to guess, we’d say that Chynna or Hope may end up getting the boot.
