The opening statement made by the prosecutor on day one of the Conrad Murray manslaughter trial included two bombshells. One was a photo of the dead body of Michael Jackson on a hospital gurney and the other was an audio recording of the pop star in a drug impaired state.
The shocking recording was taken from Dr. Murray’s iPhone. Deputy Dist. Atty David Walgren told jurors, “This is what Conrad Murray is seeing and observing on May 10, 2009, and what does he do with that knowledge and information? On May 12, he orders another shipment of propofol and midazolam.”
Walgren went on to tell jurors that Murray knowingly compromised his professional responsibility to keep his $150,000 a month position as Jackson’s concert doctor.
Defense attorney Ed Chernoff suggested that his client was actually trying to wean the singer off propofol. He went on to allege that Jackson created his own “perfect storm” by swallowing several lorazepam pills the morning of his death and then self-ingested the anesthetic propofol.
