Actress Kim Delaney raised eyebrows and concerns when she made a speech at the National Constitution Center last night in Philadelphia, an event honoring U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.
The Army Wives star was clearly impaired and confused. She appeared to be reading from a teleprompter, slowly slurring her way through the scripted speech, at one point going totally silent after losing her focus.
Delaney carried on for an agonizingly long 1:57 seconds before a staff member came out to escort her off the stage. Our question … why was she allowed to continue when it was obvious she was struggling from the onset?
She said in a monotone voice, “I’ve seen soldiers come home with painful life altering injuries… I’ve attended numerous military funerals, including my best friend’s son.”
In a moment of clarity, she seemed to realize that her recollections weren’t real. She continued, “It’s all make believe. I do that as a job. It’s make believe. I have the luxury to do all of this on a television show.”
The actress has battled substance abuse in the past and sought rehab back in 2003. No word yet from Delaney’s rep on what went wrong. Will they be forthcoming or use the convenient excuse that the star was having trouble seeing the teleprompter?
