Legendary folk singer Paul Simon delivered a poignant rendition of Sound of Silence this morning as part of the Ground Zero ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center Twin Towers.
Today, the 9/11 Memorial, built out of the remaining holes where the Twin Towers once stood tall, has officially opened.
Simon sang, “And the vision that was planted in my brain, still remains, within the sound of silence.”
The singer penned the tune in 1964 in the aftermath of the 1963 assassination of John F. Kennedy. The single was released by Simon & Garfunkel, and became their second most popular song behind Bridge Over Troubled Water.
