Country singer Chely Wright wed her partner, LGBT rights activist Lauren Blitzer on Saturday in Connecticut.

Wright took a brave step in May 2010 when she announced, “There has never been a country music artist who had acknowledged his or her homosexuality… Nothing in my life has been more magical than the moment I decided to come out.”

According to People magazine, it was just two weeks after Chely came out that she met Blitzer. They announced their engagement in April 2011.

Lauren and Chely were led through the ceremony by a Christian minister and a Jewish rabbi, exchanging vows in front of 200-plus guests. The women each donned a white wedding gown but neither wore a veil. Wright explained, “We like our hair too much!”

The crowd then feasted on a barbecue catered by New York’s Blue Smoke. They opted for a deejay spin because the country crooner joked, “Bands at weddings make me nervous.”

In addition to an image featured at the top of this post, Wright shared another photo on her Twitter page that she captioned, “Let’s get this party started.”
