After the sudden death of songstress Amy Winehouse, rumors began circulating that she had been in the process of adopting a child from Saint Lucia.
A few reports stated that Amy had actually started the proceedings to adopt Dannika Augustine, a ten-year-old poverty stricken girl from the Caribbean island.
Some of the reports even quoted the child’s grandmother, who reportedly claimed that Dannika had been planning to move to London with Winehouse.
We found the entire idea to be preposterous for any number of reasons. As it turned out … it was bogus.
Reps for the deceased singer are clearing up the claims. “She was not in the process of legally adopting anyone,” they told CNN in a statement.
Regardless of the situation, Dannika’s family did make a connection with Winehouse during one of her vacation visits and had nothing but wonderful things to say about their interaction: “Amy was such a good person, she wanted to help everyone. I know she had her problems, but in St Lucia she was a much better person than people knew in the UK.”
