With 13 seasons under his belt, NFL wide receiver Randy Moss, 34, is hanging it up. His glory years were with the Minnesota Vikings from 1998-2004, where he made the Pro Bowl five times.
Then it was on for shorter stints with the Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots before NFL quarterback Brett Favre talked the Vikings into bringing the legendary bad boy back to Minnesota in 2010. That short-lived fiasco at Minnesota ended four weeks later when he was waived one day after publicly criticizing then head coach Brad Childress and the Vikings organization during a press conference following a loss to the Patriots.
The Tennessee Titans picked up the controversial player two days later. He played eight games with the Titans, finishing 2010 with a career low of 28 receptions and 393 receiving yards. The team had no interest in re-signing Moss of 2011, leaving him with no viable options other than a quiet exit.
Randy had some issues along the way, with arrests in Minnesota for a variety of antics. Then there was the infamous snafu with the NFL when he pretended to moon Packer fans during a playoff game at Lambeau Field in January 2005. That little scene resulted in a $10,000 fine.
Moss holds the NFL single-season touchdown receptions record, 23 set in 2007, as well as the NFL single-season touchdown reception record for a rookie, 17 in 1998.
There is the outside possibility that someone will show interest in Moss and he’ll change his retirement plans. Brett Favre has demonstrated on multiple occasions that unretiring is a snap.
