“Gossip Girl” actress Leighton Meester filed a lawsuit against her mother Constance last week, claiming she sends her $7,500 a month to pay for her little brother Alexander’s (Lex) severe medical issues (including a condition that recently required him to undergo brain surgery), but her mom uses it for cosmetic procedures and other personal expenses instead.
Now Connie Meester is fighting back with a countersuit, claiming her famous daughter attacked her on December 11, 2010, “repeatedly hitting her with a bottle.”
The countersuit alleges the actress was in such a rage that she had to be pulled off her mother by her little brother.
Connie, who according to Leighton refuses to work, admits that she gets $7,500 every month from her daughter, but claims it is a settlement for all the money she helped make for her, and that she can use it any way she sees fit.
The countersuit goes on to say that Leighton promised her mother a one-time payment of $30,000, and $10,000 a month for life, but hasn’t paid, resulting in insufficient funds for Alexander’s care.
Leighton denies the claims and says her mom threatened to file a $3 million lawsuit against her if she didn’t come up with the money.
When Leighton was born her mother was serving a prison sentence for her involvement in a drug ring that smuggled marijuana from Jamaica to the United States. She was able to give birth to Leighton in a hospital and nurse her in a halfway house for three months before returning to prison. During her mother’s prison term Leighton was cared for by her grandmother.
Leighton has said that her upbringing made her realize that “you can’t judge anyone, especially your parents, for what they’ve done in their past, because people change.”
