A private Jewish funeral service was held for Amy Winehouse in London on Tuesday, July 26. Mitch Winehouse, his wife Janis and son Alex were joined by 200 family members and close friends as they buried their 27-year-old daughter at Edgwarebury Cemetery.
The deceased singer’s father worked with the coroner’s office to see that his daughter’s body was released on Monday, so that his family could bury Amy within three days of her death, in accordance with their Jewish beliefs.
The cause of death was not revealed by the autopsy. Toxicology test results will be available in four weeks.
The service, led by a Rabbi, lasted 45 minutes and was attended by music producer Mark Ronson and DWTS alum Kelly Osbourne, who wore her hair in a beehive, the signature ‘do of her friend Winehouse.
In an emotional tribute to his daughter, Mitch Winehouse told stories about Amy’s childhood and ended with: “Goodnight, my angel. Sleep tight.”
Following the service, many of the attendees moved on to Golders Green Crematorium, where the remains of Amy Winehouse were to be cremated.
Ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil, currently serving a 32 month sentence in prison for burglary and a gun violation, was denied his request to attend the funeral.
Other funeral attendees included Winehouse band mates Zalon and Heshima Thompson, Russell Brand and Amy’s boyfriend Reg Traviss – date photos here.
The events unfolded beginning Saturday afternoon, when the lifeless body of Amy Winehouse was discovered in her bed by a security employee. Crowds gathered outside of her North Camden flat as her body, encased in a maroon body bag, was carried to a waiting coroner’s vehicle.
Mitch Winehouse arrived back in London from New York City on Sunday and he and family members positively identified their daughter’s body at the coroner’s office before traveling to Amy’s home to spend time with mourners who were holding vigil at a makeshift memorial site.
