New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg has purchased an estate in Southampton, NY, listed for $22.5 million.

The historic 22,000 square foot mansion in Shinnecock Hills sits on nearly 35 acres overlooking the famed National Golf Links of America and Peconic Bay, and includes 11 bedrooms and 8.5 bathrooms.

The ivy-covered Georgian-style manor home, known as Ballyshear, was designed by F. Burall Hoffman and built in 1910 for Charles Blair MacDonald, the man who built the first 18-hole golf course in the country.

The grounds include a pool, a tennis court, stables and pastureland.

The house itself is surrounded by traditional English gardens, and the estate is set in hundreds of acres of woodland.

Mayor Bloomberg’s real estate portfolio includes a townhouse in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, a country home in New York’s Westchester County, an ocean view mansion in Bermuda and a condo in Vail, Colorado.
