Singer Skylar Grey will release her debut album Invinsible this fall but she is far from new to the music scene. She has been featured on Dr. Dre and Eminem‘s I Need a Doctor, Diddy‘s Coming Home, and she wrote Rihanna and Eminem’s smash hit Love the Way You Lie.

Though she’s just starting to break through on her own, she is well known underground. On a recent promotional stop in the Twin Cities to hype her upcoming album, Grey took over Minneapolis radio station 96.3 NOW.

The singer held an impromptu mini-concert, performing bits and pieces of songs she has been featured in or has written. She was incredible.

This writer was thrilled to be able to chat with her afterward. I asked her if she ever regrets giving up a song, especially when it becomes a monstrous hit like Love the Way You Lie.

She admits there are some songs she refuses to give up because she wants them for herself, but she’s glad she let that one go because it got her to where she is now and earned her a few Grammy nods.

Six tracks that will appear on the album are Dance Without You, Final Warning, Weirdo, Building A Monster, Invisible and Coming Home Part 2.

Grey’s personal story is fascinating. She had almost given up on music when she decided to seclude herself alone in the mountains, in a search for clarity and motivation. She admits that she had literally hit rock bottom when it all suddenly fell into place.
