It’s official. Charlie Sheen is heading back to television with a new sitcom Anger Management. The announcement was released today by Lionsgate TV on behalf of the actor.
The 45-year-old will play an ex-athlete, with temper problem of his own, who counsels criminal defendants regarding the management of their anger issues. Charlie’s television character will be modeled after the Jack Nicolson character in the big screen version of Anger Management, a Joe Roth-produced film.
The actor’s manager Mark Berg said: “Charlie is excited about going back to work and looks forward to playing a different character other than Charlie Harper. I can guarantee you that Charlie will not be wearing a bowling shirt on the new show.”
Sheen released his own statement: “I chose Anger Management because, while it might be a big stretch for me to play a guy with serious anger management issues, I think it is a great concept. It also provides me with real ownership of the series, a certain amount of creative control and the chance to be back in business with one of my favorite movie producers of all time, Joe Roth.”
Liongate’s syndication arm Debmar-Mercury will distribute the new series.
The former Two and a Half Men star was cut loose by CBS and Warner Bros. in March 2011 and then embarked on a Nationwide Tour of sorts. He will be the subject of a ‘nothing off limits‘ Comedy Central Roast in September.
