Less than a week after suffering a stroke at his Florida home, Clarence Clemons has passed away at age 69. Clemons, best known for his musical talent on the sax, was a prominent member of Bruce Springsteen‘s E Street Band.
Springsteen released a statement late Saturday, expressing the grief of the band: “His loss is immeasurable and we are honored and thankful to have known him and had the opportunity to stand beside him for nearly 40 years.”
“He was my great friend, my partner, and with Clarence at my side, my band and I were able to tell a story far deeper than those simply contained in our music. His life, his memory, and his love will live on in that story and in our band.”
Despite numerous medical issues over the past years, Clemons continued to make music and work right up until his death.
Many in Hollywood took to Twitter to give their condolences:
Rob Lowe: “Clarence Clemons was an electric, generous, sweet spirit. Taught me how to look cool with a sax. Goodbye Big Man #Legendary.”
Janet Jackson: “Clarence Clemons was a wonderful talent. He will be on my mind tonight.”
Seth Meyers: “RIP Clarence Clemons. I’ll never forget when the change was made uptown and the big man joined the band.”
