Engaged? That’s what Bill says …
It looks like Microsoft founder Bill Gates revealed a closely guarded bit of information on Sunday during an interview with the Daily Mail. He casually mentioned that Priscilla Chan is the fiancee of billionaire Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.
The two cyber giants are good friends who have vowed to use their wealth to help those in need. During a discussion of their philanthropic efforts, Gates said: “I didn’t say to Mark, ‘Give me all your money!’ He was predisposed to do it and he came to me seeking advice.”
“His fiancee Priscilla thought about education and he gave money to Newark, New Jersey, and we did a co-grant so that some of our people who have some expertise in that field could help him out.”
As might be expected, Facebook’s head of communications, Elliot Schrange, tried to cast doubt on what most are considering a huge, albeit unintentional disclosure by Gates. He said: “If Mark is engaged, Bill Gates knows something I don’t know. Gates’ communication guy just wrote to apologize for the misunderstanding.”
Zuckerberg is worth $13.5 billion. According to Forbes, the 26-year-old is the second youngest billionaire in the world and ranks 52nd overall.
The social network mogul began seeing Chan, a Chinese-American from Boston, when they were attending Harvard University seven years ago. Zuckerberg recently purchased a $7 million estate in Palo Alto. The couple moved into the 5,000 square foot California home last month – photo gallery here.
