Have you ever pondered the idea of sitting down with investor, industrialist and philanthropist Warren Buffet for a power lunch? Perhaps not, but there are a few people who are shelling out big bucks for the opportunity.
An online charity auction for a steak lunch at Smith & Wollensky in Manhattan with the “Oracle of Omaha” ended Friday night. The winning bidder, who wishes to remain anonymous and appears to have a penchant for numerology, initially seized the lunch date for $2,345,678 million. Upon learning that he had fallen short of the previous year’s winning bid, he upped his final bid to $2,626,411 in order to surpass last year’s record by $111.
There wasn’t much competition in 2011, with just two bidders placing a total of eight bids. The proceeds will benefit the Glide Foundation, a San Francisco charity run by Glide Memorial Church.
In 2010 the online action was fierce, with 77 bids placed for the opportunity to dine with the chairman and chief executive of Berkshire Hathaway, one of the richest men in the world.
The 80-year-old , reportedly worth $50 billion, has vowed to give away 99 percent of his fortune. Get in line…
