It’s official … Katie is stepping down
Following weeks of speculation, Katie Couric has finally made it official. She told People magazine: “I have decided to step down from the CBS Evening News.”
The veteran broadcaster went on to say: “I’m really proud of the talented team on the CBS Evening News and the award-winning work we’ve been able to do in the past five years in addition to the reporting I’ve done for 60 Minutes and CBS Sunday Morning. In making the decision to move on, I know the Evening News will be in good hand, but I am excited about the future.”
She is looking at a new format that will allow her to “engage in more multi-dimensional storytelling” but she isn’t willing to share any of the specific details. She indicated that the project is still in development.
Another rumor that has been floating, suggests that she and Matt Lauer will hook up for an Oprah-type replacement show on CBS. His current contract with NBC’s Today Show ends in December 2012.
