Singer and actress Demi Lovato has been making several big life changes in recent months. The entertainer has recently begun to speak candidly about her rehab stint last year.
In November her career came to a crashing halt after she punched back-up dancer Alex Welch. She abruptly left the Jonas Brothers tour and entering rehab.
During a recent 20/20 interview, Demi spoke about the altercation. She has taken full responsibility for the incident and admits: “I feel horrible, she was my friend.”
Lovato remained in treatment for many months to deal with both emotional and physical issues. Demi had been cutting herself since age 11 and is dealing with an ongoing battle with bulimia.
Demi now realizes that the self mutilating was “a way of expressing my own shame, of myself, on my body.” Adding that she felt she was “matching the inside to the outside.”
Lovato revealed in a People magazine interview that she will not return to her hit Disney channel series Sonny with a Chance. She said: “Being in front of a camera would make me nervous.”
For now Demi will focus on her music career and hopes that by speaking out, she can help other girls who are battling the same issues.
