American Idol Season 10 Top 8

With eight contestants still vying to be the last singer standing, it was ‘Songs from the Movies’ night on the FOX hit reality show American Idol.

Before things got underway, Ryan Seacrest made mention of a new honor bestowed upon judge Jennifer Lopez, who was named People magazine’s Most Beautiful Woman 2011 – images here.

The six men and two women performed as follows:

Paul McDonald sang “Old Time Rock and Roll” from the movie Risky Business, Lauren Alaina performed Miley Cyrus song “The Climb” from the Hannah Montana move.

Stefano Langone tried his hand at “End of the Road” from Boomerang, and country boy Scotty McCreery did the George Strait tune “I Cross My Heart” from Pure Country. Has anyone else noticed that the teen is a dead ringer for iconic Mad mag mascot Alfred E. Newman?

Casey Abrams took the biggest risk with Nat King Cole hit “Nature Boy” from the film The Boy with Green Hair, while playing an upright bass. Haley Reinhart performed the Blondie song “Call Me” from American Gigolo.

Jacob Lusk sang the Simon & Garfunkel tune “Bridge Over Troubled Water” from The Pursuit of Happyness. Rounding out the evening was James Durbin with Sammy Hagar’s “Heavy Metal” from the movie by the same name.

The judges continued to gush about this group of performances. At one point, JLo remarked: “You know, everyone wants us to be tough, but you guys are just so damn good, right? Later she remarked: “I don’t know how it is sounding at home, but they are killing it dead.”

Who will be eliminated on Thursday night? According to the media hype, the largest segment of voters continues to be young women who are smitten with this season’s crop of guys. If that continues to be the case, expect to see Lauren or Haley get the boot tonight.
