A 12-year-old girl abducted in Salem, Virginia was found Friday in California. Brittany Mae Smith, who had been missing since Monday, “has been safely located,” police said in a statement.
Co-workers of Brittany’s mother, Tina Smith, called police on Monday, saying they were concerned because the 41-year-old had not shown up for work. Police arrived at the home and found Tina’s body. An Amber Alert was issued after authorities learned she wasn’t at school.
The boyfriend of the girl’s dead mother, 32-year-old Jeffery Scott Easley is in custody in San Francisco.
According to Roanoke County police Chief Ray Lavinder, Easley met the girl’s mother online over the summer, and moved into their home in October.
More details are expected during a press conference at 8 p.m. ET, Friday.
