Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Don Meredith is dead at the age of 72.
Meredith died on Sunday in Santa Fe, New Mexico after suffering a brain hemorrhage and lapsing into a coma. His death was confirmed by his wife, Susan.
Meredith played nine full seasons in the NFL before retiring unexpectedly in 1969.
Following his football career, “Dandy Don” became a commentator for ABC’s Monday Night Football in 1970, leaving from 1974-1976 to work at NBC, before returning to MNF.
Meredith retired from broadcasting after the 1984 season. He also had an acting career, and was best known in that field for a series of Lipton Tea commercials in the 1980s.
