Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp paid a surprise visit to a London school after receiving a letter from a student asking the actor to help stage a mutiny.

Depp showed up at Meridian Primary School in Greenwich, south-east London dressed at Captain Jack Sparrow on Wednesday after giving the school just a 10-minute notice.

Depp received a letter, addressed to Captain Jack Sparrow, asking for his help in an uprising against teachers, “We are a bunch of budding young pirates and we were having a bit of trouble mutiny-ing against the teachers, and we’d love if you could come and help,” Beatrice Delap, 9, wrote to Captain Jack.

Depp, who is in south-east London filming the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie On Stranger Tides, surprised the children when he and some of his pirate buddies strolled into a hastily-arranged assembly.

Depp, holding her letter, called Beatrice out of the audience, gave her a hug then questioned the wisdom of a mutiny.

“Maybe we shouldn’t mutiny today because there are police outside monitoring me,” Depp said

Beatrice agreed with the pirate’s logic, “Yeah, that’s probably a good idea.”

When asked if she could be a pirate, Beatrice said, “Maybe, I sail.”
