Randy Moss Traded by New England to Minnesota Vikings
The New England Patriots have traded wide receiver Randy Moss to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a 3rd round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Moss will be paid $10 million a year, the current going rate for top receivers in the NFL. The deal is contingent on Moss passing a physical exam.
Coach Brad Childress addressed the media Wednesday afternoon. He said: “We feel very good about the opportunity to add a player of Randy Moss’ caliber to this football team. He is a tremendous competitor and was an integral member of the Vikings. I know the entire organization is thrilled to welcome him back to the Twin Cities.”
The 33-year-old made his Vikings debut in 1998. He electrified a stagnant franchise and turned the team into Super Bowl contenders. Moss made the Pro Bowl five times in his seven-year career in Minnesota (1998-2000, 2002 and 2003).
During his tenure, Moss jumped from one media firestorm to the next. He disobeyed a traffic control officer, pushing her along with his car. The incident was caught on tape and he was initially charged with felony suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and marijuana possession. It was later reduced to a misdemeanor. He was fined and sentenced to community service.
There was the time he left a game before it ended and was widely criticized for quitting on the team. Another outrageous stunt had him pretending to moon the crowd in Green Bay during an NFC Wildcard playoff against the Packers – see pic below.
Talk about a wild ride and now we find out that he’s baaaack!
In 2005 Moss was traded to the Oakland Raiders. Two years later he landed with the Patriots, though Brett Favre lobbied hard within the Packer organization to bring Randy to Green Bay prior to his first official retirement. The veteran QB said: “There is no one in this league who puts fear in people more than Randy Moss.”
It seems likely Favre is still a Moss believer and was instrumental in convincing Childress to negotiate the acquisition.
The Vikes also brought in former Eagles receiver Hank Baskett two weeks ago, signing Playboy model Kendra Wilkinson‘s hubby to a one-year contract.

Despite the fact that the Moss trade is fresh news, there is already an outrageously funny YouTube video spoof of Brad Childress leaking the news to Brett on his answering machine. Be forewarned – the last few seconds reference the lewd text message photo allegations that were leveled against the QB recently, involving inappropriate activities that took place while he was with the Jets organization.
