British singer Leona Lewis canceled a show in Nigeria on Saturday after two car bombs in the country’s capital killed at least 12 people.
Nigerian police said the second bomb, which exploded five minutes after the first, was timed to cause as much damage as possible to those responding to the first blast.
The concert to celebrate 50 years of Nigerian independence was to be held in Abuja, capital of Nigeria.
Lewis, who was reportedly in a hotel with friends when the attacks took place, felt it inappropriate to proceed with the event.
In a statement, she said, “Out of respect for those victims, it is with regret that I have had to postpone my performance.”
