Sarah Murdoch snafu….real or fake???
Aussie model and show host Sarah Murdoch had the task of announcing the winner of Australia’s Next Top Model on the live television finale Tuesday Night. Things went awry when she announced the wrong winner.
Murdoch, daughter-in-law of media magnate Rupert Murdoch, announced 19-year old Kelsey Martinovich as the winner. While a celebration ensued and after both the winner and runner-up had spoken to the crowd, the host apologized for an error and revealed that 18-year-old Amanda Ware was the REAL winner.
How could this happen? She said that a short time before the announcement, she had been told that Martinovich was leading the count. The winner was to be conveyed to her through an earpiece. When it didn’t come through her ear she decided to go with what she was told earlier.
Murdoch said of the snafu: “I still feel sick about it. I’m still in shock about it.”
Many suggest that the on-air gaffe may have been a publicity stunt. To that suggestion, the show host said: “Why would you … you would never put your worst enemy in a situation like that, let alone these gorgeous girls.”
Martinovich will be well compensated despite the fact that she was only a winner for a fleeting few minutes. She has been given $25,000 and an overseas trip as a token gesture.
The real winner, Amanda Ware, will receive a $25,000 contract to appear in a Levi’s ad campaign, a trip to New York, a car and $25,000 in cash.
Check out the photos and video below. The fact that both women were able to get through their statements on stage before the host was alerted to the error seems extremely odd.
